What’s “Why” Got To Do With It?
You’re tired before you even get out of bed. You pour the coffee just waiting to feel alive again. The dog needs to go out and bending over to put your shoes on feels unreasonably difficult. The kids jump into your arms for enthusiastic hugs before they leave for the bus-stop and they practically knock you over!
In the first hour of being awake, you realize how low your energy is… Where is that vitality that people used to love about you? Where is that zest for life and fun? Where is the excitement for a new day?
I don’t know about you, but I’ve been feeling this way lately. Spring in Minnesota missed the memo… and it’s been cold and dreary for MONTHS. My mind, body, and spirit have been drained of all energy… And I’m tired of feeling tired.
Wouldn’t it be nice to get our ‘pep’ back?! I decided this is the week. I’ve downloaded my favorite at-home workout and I’m setting aside time every day just for me and those darn peppy women that get my blood flowing and my muscles hurting.
Do I sound excited? Ha! Truth is - I like it when I do it. But it’s sooooo easy to put everyone else first, and put off the things that make me feel like… me.
Truth is: Energy is something we are either cultivating or draining. Mine has been draining for months - but I can choose to turn that around. I can choose to make time for what I know works for me. I can choose to say “no” to things that distract. I can choose to say “yes” to putting this in my schedule.
I choose for me.
Willpower is not my thing. I’m horrendous at “making” myself do things.
But you know what does work for me? Connecting to my Why. Putting meaning to the task.
Why do I want to work out? Why is it important to set aside this time and set myself up for success? (Why do I want to torture myself with sore muscles?!)
Easy. For my kids and my husband. I want the energy to dance around the kitchen. I want to take the dog for a long walk and go hiking with my husband. I want to spend the summer days swimming at the pool with the kids and exploring new parks. I want the energy to work hard serving beautiful women and helping them create the lives they love - and still have the energy to enjoy my evenings with my family. I want the energy to travel this summer; to stay healthy; to continue re-connecting with friends.
My Why is all about wanting to live life to the fullest - and I can’t do that when I just want to go back to bed…
So this week, I’m choosing me - and by choosing me, I’m really choosing to be the best me for those I love. I’m choosing to set aside time to take care of myself, so I can be the woman I want to be.
So my question to you, is will you join me? Will you choose yourself this week? If so, I’d love for you to leave a comment below and tell me how you’re choosing yourself - I’d love to be cheering you on!
