Happy New Years! Now What?!

You know what I really get irritated at around this time of year? The whole “New Year, New You” idea. The idea that just because January 1st came around again, we have to recreate ourselves to be more perfect.

Well… I stick my tongue out to that.

My life is not perfect (far from it these days!), my body and health aren’t perfect, my marriage and kids aren’t perfect, my home isn’t perfect… You get the idea. And guess what? That’s ok!

I don’t do New Year’s Resolutions anymore for that exact reason. I’m not going to set impossible goals that will be forgotten by January 17th (did you know that’s the day most people drop their resolutions?). I’m not going to force habits that don’t bring joy or energy to my life. I’m not going to punish myself for all the things I didn’t do well last year…

Because guess what? January 1st is just another day.

If we notice there are things we want to change about lives - we can start ANY time. What an amazing concept, right?! I think I take inventory about 4 times a year… and if there are new habits calling my name, I start them. If there are old habits detracting from the life I want, I lose them. If there’s an adventure pulling me forward, I take it! If my relationships are struggling, I tend to them.

It isn’t about creating a “new me,” it’s about tweaking and stepping into the life I want.

One of the ways I do this is by creating a Life Vision. And yes, I do this a couple of times a year - because things change. Life throws curveballs. We achieve goals and need new ones! Opportunities present themselves. Challenges arise. But taking a moment to re-evaluate and set new intentions of who we want to be in all these areas of our lives, in all the different circumstances, in the highs and lows - that’s something I love.

This year, I actually played with a few different ways to set my intentions:

  • I revisited my Life Vision (which you can do in this workshop I’m leading this Saturday!) including picking a word for my year and creating a Vision Board to keep myself inspired!

  • I journaled through Susannah Conway’s “Unravel” Workbook (free on her website!).

  • I’ve been continuing my growth through Brendon Burchard’s GrowthDay app (pushing myself to higher performance).

The New Year doesn’t have to result in a new you, but you can always strive to create the life you want and be the person you want to be. By focusing on our own needs and dreams - we’re opening ourselves up to more energy, joy, and connection… And by filling our cup first - we’re able to overflow into those we love most!

If you’re ready to set some new intentions for the new year, join me this Saturday, January 8th at 9am CST - I’d love to lead you in my favorite way to create a Life Vision… One that will set up an amazing year for Beautiful You!
