You Are Not Lazy

“You are not lazy. You are tired. Perhaps you are lacking a few meaningful goals. Get some rest. Breathe a little. Start dreaming again. Set a plan, remember your strength, march on with enthusiasm and love and all will be well.” —Brendon Burchard

Ahhh… I’ve been feeling a little tired lately. So many good things going on in my life - and yet, when no one’s around, I find myself wanting nothing more than a nap. And that makes me feel lazy.

The days I feel like I have nothing to give, no desire to work, to play, to strive for whatever else comes next…. I’m just bumbling along, patiently waiting for bedtime.

Do you ever have those days? Today is one, for me. I’m still coming down off an amazing coaching retreat last week and my energy is simply not there.

I’m tired. Not lazy. Tired.

Sometimes we go for so long - taking care of everyone else, giving our all to a work project, fighting to keep up and pay the bills, or even pushing through hard emotional stuff in order to keep our heads above water and simply survive. We run and run, push and push - and when we stop?

We feel bad about it. Lazy…

But our bodies know what’s best for them. Our mind, body, and spirit connection works in tandem to let us know when it’s time for a break. And the best thing we can do? Is listen to our body. Take a break. Rest.

One thing I’ve learned when I get to this point - is not to give up on the things I want, especially dreams and goals - but instead, to make a plan.

Plan to go to bed earlier. Plan to eat nourishing foods. Plan to drink my water and move my body (gently, when I’m tired). Plan time for stillness and deep breaths.

Break down my goals into smaller pieces, easily accomplished without a lot of work or time - and take the easy wins!

And yes, continue to focus on my strengths and where I can use them to allow myself to keep moving forward even in the midst of a time of rest.

When I do these things? It’s usually only a few days before I begin to feel myself again. Before I know it, my mind is clear, my body is energized, and my spirit is ready for whatever the world brings my way!

So please don’t call yourself “lazy.” You are not lazy - you are living a full life! And sometimes, you need rest. Take it. Without guilt.

Take it with gratitude for all the ways you not only survive, but thrive in life! Take some rest, knowing that soon you will be back to the extraordinary, energetic, joy-filled person you want to be!

You’ve got this!

(Now, go take a nap.)
